Advert Analysis Comparison
1) The main differences are that one model is represented as a wealthy man while the other is represented as a woman who is in touch with nature hence the birds and the bird cages. They want the audience to feel as they look in the advert when they wear their fragrance. One model wants his audience to feel like a strong and dominant alpha male where as the other model wants her audience to feel like they are beauty bunnies.
2) There is a difference in target audience. The audience for the Believe fragrance are all women of all social class and lifestyle. On the other hand the I Am King fragrance is most likely directed at middle class men who managers companies. These two fragrances are more likely to be sold in the same place even though the target audience are from two different social classes.
3) They have used one similar persuasive technique. Both adverts use ‘Beautiful People’ for they say indirectly you will be beautiful when you wear this fragrance. For the Believe fragrance on the contrary uses ‘Sex Sells’ because she shows a lot of skin.

Believe by Britney Spears:
The model in this advert is Britney Spears for this is her fragrance. Her facial expression is serene and calm. Her theme for her fragrance is nature so her having a calm expression is very suiting for the advert.
This person has been chosen because it is her fragrance they are advertising. My view on this person is that she is very talented and independent hence nature doing things by herself.
The model simply has her left thump hooked on her belt holder and her right hand is to her face while a little bird settles on top of her hand. Nothing in her pose has been exaggerated for she is standing very simply.
The model is dressed in this way because she is advertising nature with her fragrance and when with nature you don’t have to cover your entire body. This might show that she has a calm personality and cool-headed.
The setting has bird cages in it. This signifies that she is showing nature and that her fragrance suits nature herself.
The lighting is neutral for she is showing nature. The feeling that is created through this lighting is peace. When they see this fragrance in a peaceful setting it makes them think that if they wear this fragrance then they will feel at peace.
The only colours that stand out are that of the fragrance bottle for that is what is being advertised and it must stand out.
The product is quite small and it fits into the right bottom corner of the picture. The product itself has like a triangle shape so does the lid. This could mean that it is complex yet serene just like nature.
Since it is a female that made the fragrance it’s directed at females. It doesn’t have to be wealthy woman for it can be for any women. The social class categories that this fragrance appeals to are C1 and C2. Futhermore the lifestyle categories that this fragance also appeals to are Egoists and Trendies. The Maslow Hierachy Of Neds that this advert appeals to is creativity, morality and spontaneity of women.
I Am King Fragrance From Sean John:
This adverts has the record producer/entrepreneur P Diddy aka Sean Combs. Since it shows a male posing for this fragrance and it says ‘King’ in the subtitle this suggest that the fragrance is for men. His facial expression says that he is a serious person and that he looks slightly arrogant.
Reasons to why this person has been chosen to advertise this fragrance could be for a number of reasons. He could have probably been chosen because he looks like the kind of person that people will like to follow wilfully. This person looks very wealthy and talented. Since this product for men and has a ‘you must be talented and strong’ personality when you look at it, it only makes sense to have someone who fits that stature.
The person basically has their left hand in their pockets and is looking directly at the camera with his upper torso slightly turned to the left as well. The way that this person is standing is casual and sometimes casual means powerful.
The model is dressed this way because he is a very wealthy person and wants everybody to know that he is wealthy. The connotations of this is that he is a talented and independent individual and can also show that he looks a little arrogant.
The background looks like a hotel lobby at night. The connotations of this are that he is probably going to attend a premier of something or maybe an after party. It might also say that he is well known to other celebrities and that they are also fond of him.
The colour of this picture has been desaturated which means that all colours have been drained from the picture. This shows that the fragrance has that ‘high and mighty’ feel to it.
The intial product is not that big. It only fits into the left bottom corner of the page. I think that the camera men want us to focus on the model rather than the fragrance to a certain extent. The product consists of a cool blue colour for the body then for the lid and label on it is silver which is considered as masculine colours. This could mean that the fragrance is for ‘masculine’ men
The target audience is men who are wealthy and yet kind of casual. This fragrance might refer to entrepreneurs and probably singers. The social class categories that this fragance refers to A and B, probably C1 and C2. The lifestyle categories that this fragance also refers to are Cowboys, Egoist and Groupies. The Maslow Hierachy Of Needs that this fragrance satisfy the needs of is spontaneity, self-esteem, achievement, respect by others and confidence.
